Introduction
The Plexus Professional Indemnity Group practices from our offices in London, Leeds and Colchester. In London we have created dedicated teams dealing with claims against various professions, as follows:
Solicitors - Plexus has been appointed to handle a number of solicitors’ schemes on behalf of London Market and composite insurers. These claims cover the whole range of claims made against solicitors including claims relating to property matters (both commercial and residential), the conduct of litigation (civil and family related) and wills and trust related matters. We presently have over 400 open solicitors’ negligence files.
Surveyors, Valuers and other Property Professionals - Recently expanded (and continuing to grow) as a result of the considerable rise in claims made by lenders against valuers and surveyors as a result of the economic downturn. The team also handles claims made against estate agents, property management companies, letting agencies etc.
Construction - The construction team handles a broad range of construction disputes relating to commercial and residential properties. The team defends claims against architects, engineers, designers and contractors. The team has considerable experience in undertaking adjudications.
Other professions - This team handles claims relating to professions such as accountants, actuaries, insurance brokers, IFA’s, mortgage brokers, IT and media professionals.
A wide range of professional indemnity claims are also defended by the teams based in Leeds and Colchester.
In addition, in London we have a delegated authority handling team typically dealing with claims with a reserve of up to £50,000 - £60,000, although the precise level is a matter for discussion with each client. Cases that are agreed as complex are not handled within the Delegated Authority Team.
Policy coverage advice forms an integral part of all of our professional indemnity work that we carry out for our clients and we are regularly retained to act in complex policy disputes and to give advice on policy wordings.
